The 'Some Enchanted Evening' concert held at saltash.net community school last Friday certainly lived up to its name. Ex student and supremely gifted pianist David Doidge, and two of his colleagues from the Royal Welsh Music College in Cardiff travelled to Saltash to lead a workshop for students from saltash.net and then perform in concert at the end of the day's activities.
Making the journey to Cornwall with David were West End Phantom of the Opera star Katy Treharne and Aled Powys Williams, a baritone with 'Only Men Aloud' and vocal coach for Britain's Got Talent finalists, 'Only Boys Aloud'.
The trio worked with the cast of saltash.net's forthcoming production of 'A Midsummer Night's Dream' during the workshop, rehearsing them not only for one of the musical items which will feature in the whole school production, but also teaching them a song from the musical 'Rent', which they later sang in the concert on Friday evening.
David, Aled and Katy played and sang a variety of musical numbers and there were performances from saltash.net's own solo performers including Jack Moir, Rosina Russell, Beulah Jones, Florence Bonner, Jamie Pullan and Adam Riglar.
Speaking at the end of the concert, Saltash Mayor Martin Gee, praised all of those taking part for providing an evening's entertainment of the highest quality. On behalf of the community and town of Saltash he thanked those people who had supported David in his early years on his musical career path and emphasised how proud everyone was of him and what he had achieved.
Having graduated with a BA (Hons) in Music in July, David is now embarking upon his Masters at the Royal Welsh College.
