Saltash,
-
The Union Inn on the waterfront with mural by David Whittley
which means Ash Tree by the Salt Mill, is the gateway to Cornwall. Situated on
the West bank of the river Tamar Saltash is often seen as a cross of Plymouth
people and Cornish people but the town is far older than Plymouth and is very
much a distinct identity of its own.
Saltash
links onto the A38 Devon Expressway and onto the M5. The main rail line that
connects Penzance to London crosses Saltash. By road the iconic Royal Albert Bridge
also known as the Tamar Bridge is free into Cornwall but there is a toll of £1 into
Devon or 50p if you have the new toll bridge detector or in the past it was the
book of tickets.
Visitors
can also sail into Saltash and use the Jubilee Pontoon which is an all tides
floating pontoon so your visit is not restricted by the tides. This pontoon is
free for short visits (Up to 12 hours). You can also sail beyond the Tamar Bridge
to Cotehele and Calstock in Cornwall depending on the tides.
Saltash
is an ideal location for visiting the beautiful villages of Cornwall and the
city of Plymouth. It is also perfect to capture the stunning scenery of the
river Tamar A Designated Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and the National
Trust’s Cotehele House which is fairly close.
Saltashpeople is a new
website dedicated to everything that is Saltash! If you have a club or organization
then let everyone know what’s happening completely free. If you are a resident
and want to keep in touch with friends or be the first to know what’s going on or
