Cornwall's Lord Lieutenant, Edward Bolitho has appointed four new Deputy Lord Lieutenants to help him in his work. The Lord-Lieutenant is Her Majesty The Queen's personal representative in Cornwall, with the appointment made by The Queen on the advice of the Prime Minister.

Although the role is a historic one, today's Lord Lieutenants fulfill a wide range of duties. These include co-ordinating Royal visits, presenting certain honours and awards on behalf of The Queen, promoting the honours system and supporting the Regular Armed Forces and the Reserves.

They also encourage the voluntary and charitable sectors, as well as taking part in citizenship ceremonies and chairing the Lord Chancellor's Advisory Committees which appoint magistrates.

The Lord Lieutenant appoints deputies to assist him in these duties, with the number depending on the size of the population of the local area. The four new Deputy Lord Lieutenants for Cornwall are; Charles Edward-Collins, Catherine Mead, Daphne Skinnard and James Staughton.

Charles Edward-Collins has developed and runs Cornwall Traditional Cottages, one of Cornwall's major holiday cottages companies, as well as being heavily involved in the St John's Ambulance and other charities. He is also a partner in a large format printing and design business, Graphique Media Solutions, which he set up 10 years ago.

Catherine Mead has been very important in developing the Cornwall brand through her extremely successful Cornish Yarg cheese. She is also High Sheriff of Cornwall this year and involved in voluntary work, especially in the agricultural sector.

Daphne Skinnard is well known for her work for BBC Radio Cornwall and is involved in a wide range of charities in Cornwall.

James Staughton the managing director of St Austell Brewery, a major employer and successful businessman in Cornwall. He is also a Director of the Cornwall Development Company and Chairman of the St. Austell Bay Economic Forum. His voluntary work includes founding the Clean Cornwall initiative.

Announcing the appointments Edward Bolitho said: "I enthusiastically welcome our four new deputy lieutenants, all of whom have very strong connections with Cornwall as well as being of key importance to the business and voluntary sectors. They will add greatly to an already strong team of Deputy Lieutenants who help to serve the community in Cornwall in so many ways."

One of the new Deputy Lord Lieutenants Daphne Skinnard said: "I am very honoured and excited about this opportunity to be a part of the amazing work that makes Cornwall the strong community it is."
