- How long have you lived in Saltash?

The Saltash Town Mayor Adam Killeya and his wife Meryn
Five Years; my wife Meryn is Cornish and we agreed
(when engaged) that as long as I got a teaching job in Cornwall we would there,
but it had to be Cornwall! The job came up in Saltash and the rest as they say
is history!
2. Do you have family in Saltash?
Not originally but my mum just moved to Saltash
which is nice – just like buses no Killeya’s in Saltash then suddenly three
come at once!
3. How long have you worked on the Town Council?
Since 2007 I was also on Caradon Disrtrict Council
from 2007 – 2009.
4. When did you become the new town Mayor?
I became the Saltash town Mayor on May this year.
Last year I was the Deputy Mayor.
5. How did you feel on the day?
Excited. Nervous. A big sense of responsibility to
do it properly.
6. What are your plans for your mayoral year?
Three main projects;
1. To advance the regeneration of Fore Street,
working with the Community Interest Company, Chamber of Commerce and others on
our big three projects a) a town square b)bringing markets to Fore Street
c)improving the look of Fore Street
2. To help our new Town Clerk settle in, and get the
council on solid footing for ‘business as usual’.
3. To promote the environmental side of Saltash – I am
also chair of Saltash Environmental Action and Saltash in Transition.
7. Have there been any achievements so far this year
or planned for the year?
- Saltash in Transition, with significant Town Council
funding have a big environmental festival coming up in September – Making Saltash
Greener.
- Our big cemetery extension starts work next week
and should be finished by December.
- I’m personally very pleased to have persuaded
Cornwall Council to let us have a small piece of land to put extra allotments
on, which will hopefully happen soon.
8. What do you like to do in your spare time?
I don’t have a lot of spare time at the moment but
I like reading, travelling and family history.
