Huge congratulations go to Tavistock based band ‘Ten Zero One’ who sailed through the first round of auditions for the national Live and Unsigned competition on Sunday 20th February.

Over 300 acts performed, but only 57 got through to the next stage - which will be held at the Plymouth Guildhall on Saturday 19th March. The band will now perform infront of thousands of spectators and a professional judging panel, including judges from Kerrang, NME Radio and Radio One. The best auditionees from the Regional Final Showcase will also get the opportunity to play support slots with a selection of major headlining acts.

Over 10,000 acts enter the contest each year, making it the largest national music competition for unsigned bands and musicians. Chris Grayston, Events Director of Live & Unsigned said: “Live and Unsigned is all about originality, live ability and credibility. We don’t accept demos or submissions and everyone auditions live.” The competition has set itself apart from its predecessors by offering and promoting originality. It’s now established as the definitive music competition for original acts and it’s open to all genres of music from Heavy Rock to Rap.

If the band make it through the Regional Final Showcase they will be heading to the area finals at the Beck Theatre, Middlesex .... then hopefully on to the National Final at the O2 in London!

The overall champion will win a recording contract with Future Music, a World Tour,  up to £100,000 of investment, and the chance to perform at several festivals. Fingers crossed for Ten Zero One!

Band profile:

The group formed as a three piece at Tavistock College School Music Club just before Christmas 2009. They were joined by Charlie Smith, also from the college, in May 2010.

The lineup is:

Max Williams - Bass Guitar/lead vocals - 13 years-old

Charlie Smith - Lead Guitar/vocals - 13 years-old

Gary Lawrence-James - Drums - 13 years-old

Jack Rawlings - Guitar/vocals - 13 years-old

They’re a very hard working group of boys, who hold regular rehearsals and often write their own music. They’ve been gigging for over 6 months now, and have recently been invited to perform at the prestigious Livewire Youth Music Project. Despite their young age, their music is extremely professional sounding, and audiences are often surprised by the high quality of their performances.

They’re hoping to record an album in the coming months ... so watch this space!

The panel of seven judges who put the boys through last Sunday were highly impressed with the band's composition. The feedback on the Live and Unsigned website says: “Ten Zero One – well rehearsed big sound, could teach the old pro’s something with great presence, good work!”. High praise indeed :-)

Ten Zero One will be performing in the first of three shows on Saturday 19th March. It will start at 12:30pm, and should last approximately two hours. As well as the auditions there’s also a guest performance from Cosmo Jarvis. Tickets cost £7.50 and can be purchased by emailing Kathryn at a.kwilliams@btinternet.com. All support welcome!

Their Saltash Livewire gig will be on 10th March at 7:30pm. There are two other bands playing, and entry is just 50p. The organisers have told the boys that they are the youngest band to play on the main stage, so the group are honoured by the invite. Click here to visit the Youth Music Project  website.
