The MET Office warns that England’s freezing weather conditions are set to continue this weekend as we prepare for Christmas. Widespread disruption to airlines and trains has meant that the weather has caused people some concern this December at the same time people are enjoying a white Christmas.

Cornwall Council is posting regular updates on the roads and areas to be salted in the next 24 hours from the road conditions and treatments page. The Highways Agency is responsible for the A30 and A38 truck roads.

There will be no refuse collections on Monday 27th December and Tuesday 28th December and for the first week of January all refuse collection will be a day later than usual. You can find a full list of dates from Cornwall Council Christmas Refuse Page.

Keep informed of school closures as the children go back to school in 2011 by either checking out their own school website or Cornwall Council’s school closure page.

During these freezing weather conditions please think about your elderly neighbours. Many older people are afraid to go out when the roads are this icy as they are afraid they will fall. Many of them slowly die of cold and hunger, too proud to ask for help. So if you have an elderly neighbor, especially if they live alone, why not pop round and see if they need any help – don’t let someone die alone near you this Christmas!

And lastly have a wonderful Christmas and New Year from Saltash People!
