There always used to be a Saltash Firework display until sometime in the early 80s I believe. The last one I remember was on the waterfront, where there was an incident with fireworks flying horizontally towards the crowd. I don't remember any since, so maybe it was a Health & Sfaety issue.

For many years it was held on Kimberly field (I remember it well because mum used to take me there and I hated the loudness of it!). It moved to the waterfront sometime in the mid to late 1970s. My wife also remembers the incident of fireworks shooting across the beach towards the onlookers, and thinks this was the last one. Don't know if any others who could shed light on this?

ReportThere should be a bonfire night in Saltash and Kimberley stadium is the perfect place for it - I am sure health & safety on these events have improved in the last twenty years. Such a shame!

apart from properly organised firework displays I personly think that they should be banned , animals not only pets but our wildlife are frightened out of their wits , fireworks today are much louder now than when I was a youngster , besides who wants all that noise and mess in a built up area like Kimberly any how :
