I am absolutely appalled with the name of our new off licence come video shop BARGAIN BOOZE and more , just what are the authorities playing at , are they trying to turn Fore Street into a Union Street ,,this government is shouting about binge drinking and the likes , then why are we getting something with a name like this., come on licensing authority , stop these outlets doing what the government and I might add the majority of Saltash citizens do not want : saltashron

I always think it's a bad sign when Bargain Booze moves into a shopping street. I too am surprised that it's arrived in Saltash, but it's a sign of the times I suppose. We are all going to have to work hard to get Fore Street trade to pick up so that some better businesses move in. That is difficult to accomplish in the current economic climate...I, like many people,am looking for work and am unable to support local business as much as I would like, and won't be supporting Bargain Booze at all. I assume the Bargain Booze outlets are franchises but don't really know. Many people use alcohol to survive when times are hard so I am guessing they may do a good trade. I don't suppose we can do anything about that and you never know it may increase trade on Fore St overall, particularly over Christmas and New Year, which would be good for other traders.

Far from being "a bad sign" is is acrually the opposite, they are a franchise and only allow you to take on the shop if the foot fall is large enough and they see the potential for business. As part of a franchise that does mean that you have no choice over the name but they are one of the very few businesses who can actually stand a chance of competing with supermarkets (and it is the supermarkets that are out of control and are killing the high street.)

My parents have worked extremely hard to run a business there for over 20 years and paid their taxes and rates and provided employment. Or perhaps you would rather have had yet another empty premises, charity shop or estate agents and seen the staff the made redundant?
