Olympic Team to attend Woolwell Open Table Tennis Championships
Woolwell Table Tennis Club are running a major table tennis tournament at Eggbuckland Community College on 27th & 28th December.
The Championships have attracted an impressive entry including Paul Drinkhall & Liam Pitchford, the English numbers 1 & 2, the two young guns of British table tennis, both certainties for the British Olympic team. Joanna Parker & Kelly Sibley have both entered - they are far & away the top two female players in Britain, again absolute certainties for the Olympic team. Also local paralympic star David Wetherill as well as Hannah Hicks, the English womens No 3 & Chris Doran, both contenders for Olympic places & the highly rated Welsh No 1 Ryan Jenkins, but this is not just an elite tournament - it is open to absolutely everyone & there is a very strong presence of our best local players.
Preliminary qualification takes place on the 27th from 11.30am to 7.30pm. Groups including the top players start at 11.30am on the 28th with knock out matches starting around 2pm finishing with final & presentations around 6pm. Entrance for spectators is free.
