Training Going Swimmingly!

24 year old local girl Jazmin Buxton is training to swim the 21 miles from Dover to Calais this September in aid of Children's Hospice South West.
Growing up by the coast Jaz has always loved the sea but it was her grandmother as well as a visit to Little Harbour that inspired her to take on this challenge. The 21 mile swim is known to be as hard as climbing Everest and Jaz will be completing it solo.
Jaz's grandmother June Bassett was a keen supporter of the charity that cares for life-limited children before she lost her battle with cancer on 5th August 2010. June always supported Jaz with her swimming and although sadly she will not see her swim the channel this gives Jaz even more reason to train hard and complete the challenge.
On a visit to Cornwall's children's hospice, Little Harbour, Jaz saw firsthand the amazing work that the staff there do for children with life limiting or life threatening illnesses and their families. On her visit, Jaz was touched by the bravery of the children and their parents alike and the facilities available to them. It costs just over £2 million a year to run each CHSW hospice and this figure was an inspiration on its own for Jaz to raise money for such a worthy cause.
Jaz said "by sponsoring me and my swim we can help ensure these children and their families in the South West have access to the care they need and the support of a safe and happy haven so they can have the stability, comfort and a home from home during their difficult journey".
Last weekend, as part of almost a year of training, Jaz completed a 6 hour sea swim which has to be undertaken before any channel attempt. It was an extremely tough six hours but Jaz said "the inspirational bravery of the children, and families that surround them in the hospice, most definitely helped put those tough days of training into perspective".
