Childcare students from Cornwall College Saltash are to start holding a parent and toddler group. The group will be held once, bringing parents and their children into an organised session within the College for two hours sessions.
The group, which is open to any parents with children from six months to four years, will meet at the College's campus in Church Road, Saltash. The sessions will be supervised and supported by childcare lecturers who will work alongside students studying on the second year of their Caring for Children qualification.
Starting on Thursday 7th February and running on subsequent Thursdays during term time, the group will meet between 9.30am and 11.30am. Each session costs just a pound although parents are being asked to provide food and drink.
The students involved and working within the group are school learners who attend college for one day a week on vocational options. They are all aged between14 and 16 and attend secondary schools in Looe, Saltash and Notre Dame in Plymouth.
The introduction of the parent toddler group means the students will get the opportunity to gain real experience of working with children in a supervised setting.
Childcare tutor Clare Jeffery said: "By running these sessions our group will be able to add the practical element of childcare to the theory they have learnt over the last year."
During the morning the students, aided by staff, will deliver creative and developmental activities with the children.
"We are running these parent and toddler groups to allow our students to benefit from real working with children scenarios and to get practical experience of working with children under supervision," added Clare.
Anyone who would like to attend can book a place by calling the College on 01752 850250.
