Social network warning after police called to teenage party

POLICE issued a stark warning of the dangers of social networking sites after a party in Saltash had to be closed down.

Officers were called to an address in the St Stephens area of the town on Friday evening.

Police Community Support Officer Natalie Hodges said by the time police arrived, the party had already "spilled out onto the street".

"On arrival there were many young people with large amounts of alcohol. The majority of the people were aged around 15," she said.

Police were forced to close down the party because the numbers of young people were so large.

Alcohol was also seized by officers from those seen leaving the party and further alcohol was seized in streets nearby.

PCSO Hodges added: "Due to the large numbers of young people being dispersed, this lead to many residents being disturbed in their own homes.

"It is believed this party got out of hand due to the details being passed on social network sites. Many of the partygoers arriving had no idea whose party it was."

She advised the parents of young people "to take a responsible attitude and look for signs of underage drinking and the incidents this leads to, the dangers of unsupervised parties where alcohol may be consumed and the consequences."

Following the party the police are appealing for witnesses to three separate incidents of assault that occurred out in the streets.

Many teenagers are out of control these days. They have no respect for community property, no respect for their teachers in school and often no respect for their parents.
There should be tougher penalties for poor parenting and give schools the power to educate these children properly. I worry about the future of our society with the way that teenagers are allowed to behave these days.

I don't use any of those social networking sites and can quite happily communicate by email, letter, landline phone or word of mouth. There is far too much rubbish on these sites and they are being abused.
Under 16s will drink and it's up to the parents to bring them up to respect the dangers of alcohol. In many, too many, cases the parents actually supply their underage offspring with booze.
