Saltash.net School Children Celebrate Chinese New Year in Style

Saltash.net school children celebrated Chinese New Year in style with a range of authentic tasty treats. Students were given the opportunity to have a Chinese takeaway style buffet for their lunch before completing the Asian experience with free fortune cookies.

The event marked the first canteen theme day at Saltash.net Community School. Staff and students gave an overwhelming response, with queues out of the door, and everyone was offered a buffet style menu where they could choose from a selection of meats, vegetables and sauces, presented in an authentic takeaway style container.

Saltash.net headteacher, Isobel Bryce was pleased to hear of the positive feedback, especially as many participants were asking that the next canteen theme day should be even bigger and better. Students were eagerly suggesting their own ideas for future theme days within the school.

Dawn Couch, Catering Supervisor, said: "As this was our first canteen theme day, we were not sure how the children were going to respond. However, within the first five minutes of food service we could all tell this was going to be a busy lunch and we ended up selling out of everything!"

"The catering team approached the theme day with enthusiasm and all stated that they were pleasantly surprised by how popular it turned out to be." The lunchtime was thoroughly enjoyed by everyone and February's theme day is now eagerly anticipated by staff and students alike.
