A new support group for parents with pre or postnatal depression has been set up in Saltash.
The idea came from Gill Berridge, a counsellor and psychotherapist, who has been volunteering at Saltash Children's Centre for the last 18 months.
Gill identified a need to provide emotional support for parents and parents to be who are struggling with depression. Having had four children herself, and suffered from this illness, Gill now wants to help other women in similar circumstances.
Children's Centre Manager Sarah Trubody commented: "Saltash is a growing community and it is important to provide emotional support for both parents and the next generation to help increase better relationships and wellbeing."
"This support group will equip mums and mum's-to-be with new skills to help them give their new families the best start by promoting positive thoughts, feelings and behaviours. It will also raise the awareness of pre and post natal depression which can effect 1 in 6 women."
Sarah added:"The important message we want to get out to people with depression is that you are not alone and do not need to suffer in silence. We want anyone who feels this may be for them to come along. "
The group will meet every Wednesday from 1-2.30pm.
