Devon and Cornwall Police have been at the scene of a serious road traffic accident on the A38 in Plymouth, just off the Tamar Bridge.

The collision took place around 7.00am this morning and involved a silver van and a motorcyclist. The motorcyclist was treated at the scene for serious injuries and another person has minor injuries.

The police have since confirmed that the motorcyclist, a man in his forties has died of his injuries. His next of kin have already been informed.

The road between Weston Mill and Crownhill in Plymouth is closed eastbound while investigations take place. It is likely to be closed for some time and motorists are asked to avoid the area today if possible.

Police are keen to speak to any witnesses to the collision and ask anyone who was travelling in either direction at the time to call 101.
