Read all about Cornwall's new Lord Lieutenant Colonel Edward Bolitho in the December Edition of Cornwall Life magazine. Lieutenant Edward Bolitho will be switching the Christmas lights on in Saltash this year on Saturday 3rd December.
Edward Bolitho has taken over the role of Lord Lieutenant of Cornwall and Isles of Scilly from Mary Holborrow after 17 years. Edward Bolitho was already the current High Sheriff of Cornwall, a prestigious though largely ceremonious role.
Edward Bolitho was born in Penzance in 1955, and after a career in the army where he was awarded an OBE, he retired in 1988. Edward Bolitho returned to his family home, Trengwainton in Penzance to run the family businesses, including the house and gardens of Trengwainton which has been in the family Bolitho for over 150 years and given to the National Trust 50 years ago.
The Lord Lieutenant is appointed by the Queen and means that he is the Queens personal representative in Cornwall, and is also given advice by the Prime Minister, although the role is not political. Edward Bolitho has thrown himself into the role and is already a patron of 20 organisations.
To read more about Edward Bolitho and the role of Cornwall's Lord Lieutenant read Lesley Double's fantastic article in the December Edition of Cornwall Life, and don't forget you can see him switch the Christmas lights on in Saltash this year.
