Local running enthusiast and membership secretary to the Tamar Trotters, Helen Roper 35, ran her ninth Marathon (seventh London Marathon) last month at the 2011 London Marathon on Sunday 17th April.

The fourth time running in fancy dress, Helen ran the Marathon this year as a school girl. Last year she ran as a whoopee cushion - exhausted and very hot she decided to run in something a lot lighter this time around!

Helen loves running and enjoys the community spirit at the Tamar Trotters where she has been a member for three years and club secretary for the past year. She moved to Saltash last year from Torpoint, where she originally grew up, just to be close to the club's activities.

The Tamar Trotters have a full program throughout the year, during the summer months they run up to Trematon and through Forder Creek valley and in the winter they often run along the Tamar Bridge and through Plymouth.

Twenty three people from the Tamar Trotters took part in the London Marathon this year. They arrived in London in style in a large double Decker coach with light entertainment and music all the way.

Helen loves running with the Tamar Trotters and says, "Running gives you a feel good feeling and such a sense of achievement at the end". Helen was very pleased to have finished the London Marathon this year as she had not been well in the weeks running up to the big race.

Helen's best time at the London Marathon is 3 hours and 44 minutes – where anything under 4 hours is a really good time. Helen will soon be working in her new role as a member of the SCOPE inclusion team and is looking forward to eight London Marathons in a row!
