As the New Year is well and truly upon us and it is back to work as usual, the staff and volunteers at Children's Hospice South West (CHSW) are working flat out to plan another year of fundraising. Funds are always needed to be able to keep providing the care and support that CHSW offer to families with children who have life limiting conditions.

Although 50 miles from one of CHSW's children's hospices; Little Harbour in St Austell, Plymouth is a key fundraising area for CHSW and is also the home town for many families who visit Little Harbour and are supported by CHSW.

With Little Harbour now supporting over 50 children and their families, together with 15 bereaved families and 102 siblings, it is vital that fundraising continues in order for the charity to be able to keep providing the care and support that they offer.

There are two CHSW charity shops in Plymouth, one on Cornwall Street in the City Centre and one special furniture and home shop on Mutley Plain. So if your house is rather full after Christmas, why not donate any unwanted good to the CHSW shops, or collection can be arranged for large quantities or large items.

Alternatively if it is spare time that you have on your hands rather than bulging cupboards then why not offer the shops a couple of hours of your time as a volunteer? It will give you a chance to do something different and meet new people and do your bit for the charity at the same time.

Sharon Abery, Shop Manager for CHSW at Mutley Plain says "Volunteers are crucial for us to run a successful shop and we need people to help us in the stockroom as well as on the shop floor. So whether you want to be engaging with the public or helping sort stock back of house then we would be interested in hearing from you as it all helps us in our efforts to raise as much money for possible for CHSW".

If it is getting fit or losing weight that is more on your agenda this year then another way you can support CHSW in Plymouth is by signing up to take part in the Plymouth Half Marathon. The run is on 27th April so you have plenty of time to train and CHSW are local charity partner of the year so this is your opportunity to raise lots of sponsorship to help children who will not live to adulthood.

By doing any one of those things; donating to charity shops, buying from charity shops, volunteering or taking part in the half marathon you can rest easy that you are doing your bit to help CHSW and families from your area make the most of short and precious lives.

For more information on supporting CHSW visit www.chsw.org.uk or to speak to someone from the Fundraising Team call Little Harbour on 01726 871800 alternatively pop into one of the shops and speak to the shop manager for more information on or opportunities within CHSW Retail.
