The first week of free parking in Saltash in the run up to Christmas has been hailed as a tremendous success by local residents and traders.

Under the scheme the Saltash Town-centre Improvement Group (STIG), which comprises of CIC members, councilors, various traders & the Chamber of Commerce, has arranged for free parking in the town centre, from 10am every day starting from 1st December until Christmas Day.

Early reports suggest that car parks in Saltash have been consistently 80-100% full during the first few days of the scheme, and the council has received a great deal of positive feedback.

Saltash Town Mayor Cllr. Colin Oakes said: "It is great to hear so many people saying that it is a good thing, and great to see so many people using the town centre: Saltash always does well at Christmas but this has given it an extra boost."

Jill Male the owner of the Bookshelf said: "We have had several favourable comments from customers, they are generally delighted and one asked if it could continue!"

Bill Cotton, Chairman of the Saltash & District Chamber of Commerce, added: "The Chamber is delighted to support this scheme, designed to encourage both new and existing shoppers into the town centre. They will be able to explore the diverse range of shops Saltash has to offer."

Free parking will continue in Saltash until Christmas Day, so take this opportunity to come and browse the wonderful independent shops and festive atmosphere in Saltash this year for your Christmas shopping.
