Devon and Cornwall Police officers are investigating a number of reports of distraction burglaries received in Mid and West Cornwall from Friday 25th November 2011.

The reports are of males calling purporting to be from the water board claiming to be tracing water leaks or claiming to be tracing a gas leak. Whilst one has distracted the resident the other has stolen cash. All residents called on have been elderly.

At this time the police cannot confirm if all the reports received are from the same offenders. The police also want people to be aware that the offenders could travel accross the westcountry.

Please be suspicious of any unexpected callers and never let anyone into your property whose identity you are not certain of. If you believe you have suspicious persons calling at your door please phone 999 and if possible make a note of descriptions and vehicle registrations.

For non emergency information or enquiries please phone 101 or e-mail general.enquiries@devonandcornwall.pnn.police.uk
