Bragg and Barrott keep Saints on course for title

ST AUSTELL seconds remain on course for the division two title following a four wicket win at Liskeard, who were bowled out for 173, with Jim Chamberlain making 39.

Nick Matthews and Ian Trembath took three wickets each. Jason Bragg made 48 and Scott Barrott 32 as the Saints got home with three overs to spare.

Werrington seconds held on to second spot following a narrow three run home win over St Neot. Warren Rumble made 83 in Werrington's 201 for eight. David Masters took three for 44. St Neot ended on 198 for nine after eight had been needed off the last over. Chris Lovell made 47 but Phil Greening's five for 37 proved crucial.

Menheniot Looe kept in touch with a big 204-run win over visiting Callington seconds who were shot out for 78 with Mike Maiden (four for 23) and Nathan Lister (three for 40) doing the damage. Half centuries by Chris Davies, Sam Higgins and Andrew Keeble helped the home side to 282 for seven.

St Blazey's decline continued with a surprise five wicket home defeat against strugglers Grampound Road seconds.

Paul Carne made 45 in St Blazey's 147 all out, with Josh Sharpe taking four for 34. Stephen Matthews with 40 and Sharpe's 37 not out saw the Road to victory. Jamie Hine took three for 46.

Newquay seconds had a surprise six run win over Fowey after making 254. Steve Chapman made 90 while Oliver Mitchell, Darren Full and Rob Bennetts all took three wickets. After Mitchell (68) and Will Sykes (78) put on 157 for the first wicket the innings fell away.

Boconnoc scored an eight wicket win at St Minver. Rob Hawken made 71 not out in St Minver's 216 for four. Mike Blake made 95 not out and Jon Niblett 62 in the Boconnoc reply of 218 for two.

In Division Three East Neil Spencer made 92 for Bugle who beat Bude by 190 runs. Pascha Richards hit 74 and Pete Emery took five for 19 as Roche beat Tintagel by 110 runs. Andrew Pearce made 108 in Veryan's 13-run win at promotion chasing Saltash.

Mike Burnett's five for 43 saw leaders Tideford beat Menheniot Looe by five wickets and Alek Gill hit 108 in their one run home defeat against South Petherwin.

In Division Four East, Lanhydrock's Jake Carter hammered 181 in the home win over Gerrans.

The second County Twenty 20 Cup Finals Day is scheduled for Sunday at Redruth Cricket Club. The finals day of last year's competition was carried over to the beginning of this season with Grampound Road beating Truro by 16 runs in the final.

The line up for next Sunday at Trewirgie is: Semi finals – Paul v Truro (10.30am), Troon v Werrington (2pm). Final at 5pm.
